Framingham Historical Commission to present four Preservation Achievement Awards

The rehabilitation of a historic Northside home, the reuse of two downtown buildings and the efforts of a local student to spotlight Native American history will be celebrated by the city.

The Framingham Historical Commission announced the winners of this year’s Preservation Achievement Awards, which will be presented at a ceremony 7 p.m. May 31 at Framingham History Center - Edgell Memorial Library, 3 Oak St.

Timed to coincide with National Historic Preservation Month in May, the awards recognize work to preserve and promote important pieces of Framingham’s history, such as cemeteries and historic homes.

“We really believe that these buildings and structures that were built many years ago contribute to the richness of the community life here,” City Historian Fred Wallace, the chairman of the commission, said earlier this year. “They enhance our neighborhoods. They actually in many cases enhance property values, so they are really assets to the community.”
