Mashpee town officials and some interval timeshare owners at Southcape Resort are investigating the possibility of the town acquiring more than half of the 55 residential units on the Falmouth Road property and turning them into affordable housing.
Time-share owner and Lexington resident Albert Montgomery proposed the idea to the board of selectmen in a letter back in May. He suggested that the addition of a town-led plan to build affordable housing behind the resort could pose some difficulties for the vacation properties and that an agreeable solution would be ending the timeshare in exchange for more affordable housing.
