A new oasis for a part of Chicago that some analysts call a food desert - today Mayor Rahm Emanuel broke ground on a new Jewel-Osco for West Woodlawn. The Jewel is going up on the corner of 61st and Stony Island. The project was announced last year and the nonprofit Preservation of Affordable Housing helped negotiate the store.
