As the Detroit waterfront undergoes its historic transformation and revitalization, it would be easy to think that affordable options for senior living are becoming few and far between. Yet, options do exist. For example, 8330 On the River, owned by Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), boasts views of the Detroit River and Belle Isle, is centrally located near Indian Village, and offers senior living residences at a reasonable cost.

8330 doesn't simple offer a comfortable, supportive and safe environment for seniors. The facility also has a staff dedicated to serving the needs of its residents. Alice Stokes, for example, serves as 8330's community impact coordinator, a position, she says, that connects "disable residents, frail persons, and senior residents with the community and support services that will enable them to remain self-sufficient for as long as possible."

What's more, 8330 will be sponsoring the Healthy Living Fair for the residents and the surrounding community. "It is our goal to inspire, educate and promote living in healthy ways, while providing our residents and the surrounding Detroit community with resources on how to be happy and healthy as they get older," says Stokes.

It is also a way for 8330 to show off all it has to offer. "This fair will also show senior living at its finest," says Stokes.

According to Stokes, the fair will feature many vendors with services dedicated to helping seniors, in particular, live overall healthy lives. "There will be free chair massages, free makeovers, health and inspirational videos, free hearing tests, exercise demonstrations, safety and fire extinguisher demonstrations and more," she says.

According to its website, 8330 offers many amenities especially for seniors, including 24-hour maintenance servicem electronically controlled access to the building, emergency pull-cord notification system, a computer lab, a lunch program and more.
